Picalili is a reusable bag company created by its owner, Abby LeBoff. The company was created in an effort to support the environment by
providing recyclable bags, while at the same time offering fashion-friendly alternatives to using plastic.
In recent years, there has been an obvious need to cut down on the use of plastic bags, but for most people its just too easy to continue
to use them. Many grocery stores now sell inexpensive, reusable bags to cut down on the use of plastic bags and encourage recycling; however,
many of these bags are labeled with in-store advertising and don't offer the fashionable and convenient alternatives we've come to expect as consumers.
As a stay-at-home mom, I was interested in supporting our environment but couldn't find a convenient way to carry my own bags (along with two
children) into the grocery store. I wanted to do my share as far as recycling, but couldn't find a viable option to the plastic bags grocery
stores offered. This led to the creation of my large insulated purse.
The Picalili insulated purse keeps cold food cold and hot food hot. Each bag contains pockets that store coordinating tote bags as well as a
pocket for keys, a wallet, etc. The coordinating tote bags store easily and pull out quickly to fit over the metal hangers that grocery store
checkers use. They also are sturdy and hold twice as much as a standard plastic bag. I also went on to create mesh produce bags that can be
easily stored in the insulated purse. They work well to hold your fruits and vegetables and help keep them fresh. This insulated purse became
an all-in-one unit to take to the store.
After carrying my prototype of the insulated purse around for weeks, I found that it was a viable multi-use bag as well. Whether going to the
beach, the park, a store, or a friends house, this bag became a handy and upscale tote that was fun to show off.
A reusable bag was also needed for small shopping trips that would be easy to carry around and also have handles that fit on the metal hangers
for the checker. The Picalili collapsible bag was then created as an independent fashion accessory by folding into themselves for a carry-along
'pocket' bag.
Ultimately, the fabric chosen to create each of these bags has been the product of serious consideration. Environmentally friendly fabrics
were either too expensive to buy, too hard to wash, or too unattractive to carry! It was important to me to make the fabric for each bag great
looking AND washable. Today, Picalili provides the right bag, at the right price, for the right reason!
